Job summary

New Hanover House in Wilmington, NC is seeking an experienced Cook to join our culinary team and provide nutritious, high-quality meals to residents. You will prepare meals according to menus and dietary requirements, serve meals with care, maintain a clean kitchen, practice proper food safety and portion control, and collaborate with the Dietary Manager to meet residents’ preferences.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to menus and dietary requirements.
  • Meal Service: Serve meals timely with high standards of quality, portion control and presentation.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment following food safety procedures.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with the Dietary Manager and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and quality service.
  • Inventory Control: Assist with inventory management and report shortages or order needs.
  • Resident Engagement: Respond to special dietary requests and accommodate residents’ preferences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Food Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to menu plans, ensuring food is nutritious, appetizing, and prepared according to dietary requirements and resident preferences.
  • Meal Service: Ensure meals are served in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of quality, portion control, and presentation.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment by following food safety and sanitation procedures. Ensure proper storage and handling of food supplies.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Dietary Manager and kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and quality service. Assist in training new kitchen staff as needed.
  • Inventory Control: Assist with inventory management and help track food supplies. Report shortages or order needs to the Dietary Manager.
  • Resident Engagement: Respond to special dietary requests and accommodate residents’ food preferences, ensuring satisfaction with meals served.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, including safe food handling and proper sanitation practices.
