Job Description

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for Cook at the Waco Corps, located in Waco, TX.

Job Summary

Cook and serve nutritious meals and snacks according to established guidelines and schedules. Ensure all meals are prepared and served safely and attractively. Clean kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances. Maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and food in an organized manner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of proper cooking methods and procedures.
• Knowledge of effective cleaning and sanitizing practices, including safety precautions.
• Knowledge of food storage and cleaning techniques.
• Ability to cook nutritious, tasteful, and safe food for large groups promptly.
• Ability to clean kitchen appliances and utensils properly.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• One year of experience cooking for large groups, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Certifications

• Valid State Driver's License
• Food Handler’s Certificate (or ability to obtain within the specified timeframe)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Effective reading, writing, and communication skills in English.
• Ability to cook, taste, and smell food.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, standing, stooping, and some climbing.
• Work involves standing, with occasional sitting, and physical effort including lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs.
• Work is performed in a kitchen environment with temperature variations and physical discomforts.
