Location: 440 N Lynnhaven Road, VA Beach VA 23452

Position: Cook

The Cook, under the direction of designated management and supervisors, will prepare, present, store, and dispatch all food products, specifically for Dining Room, Bistro (where located), marketing and catering events, and resident tray service where required. Responsibilities include adhering to menu specifications within time limits set by the Dining Services Director, complying with health and safety regulations, and ensuring sanitary and safe food handling at all times.

Shift Details:

Full-Time, Tuesday-Friday and every other weekend; hours will vary.

Job Duties:
  • Ensure all menu items are prepared and served according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain presentation standards for all menu items.
  • Prepare meals based on menus, nutritional programs, and individual plans.
  • Ensure the quality of meals regarding taste, presentation, and dietary requirements.
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards, including cleaning and proper storage.
  • Work efficiently and consistently, ensuring timely meal preparation.
  • Meet residents' dietary needs and prepare correct quantities.
  • Utilize kitchen equipment during food preparation.
  • Stay productive and prepare for future needs.
  • Show flexibility and volunteer for open shifts as needed.
  • Follow reporting procedures for accidents and incidents.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, including infection control and hazardous materials handling.
  • Order and receive departmental supplies to maintain adequate inventory.
  • Assist with training new employees.
  • Serve food in proper portions and temperatures.
  • Report policy infractions.
  • Arrive on time and perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 1 year of cooking experience.
  • Experience in the retirement home industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of food trends, sanitation, and presentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, email).
  • Attention to detail, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic.
