Job summary

Resources for Human Development (RHD) seeks a compassionate Cook for the Opportunity Place program in Philadelphia. This part-time role focuses on preparing nutritious meals, maintaining a safe, organized kitchen, and supporting the health and well-being of individuals receiving services.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass criminal background checks and pre-employment screenings.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use workplace software applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus and dietary requirements.
  • Plan menus and establish supply lists to support meal preparation.
  • Prepare nutritious meals for approximately 18 adult men in a long-term residential setting.
  • Ensure recipes and food portions meet program standards and nutritional requirements.
  • Maintain accurate food production, inventory, and temperature records.
  • Order, receive, and inventory food and kitchen supplies as assigned.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and infection-control procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with state and local health and safety regulations.
  • Keep kitchen and food storage areas clean, organized, and inspection-ready.
  • Train and direct assigned kitchen workers or participants as needed.
  • Support positive relationships with program participants and staff.
  • Utilize appropriate crisis intervention techniques when necessary.

What You’ll Do

As a Cook, you will:

  • Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus and dietary requirements

Schedule
  • Part-Time
  • Approximately 20 Hours Per Week
  • Flexible schedule based on program needs
  • May include weekends and holidays
  • Additional hours may be available based on operational needs
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull food, supplies, and equipment
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, walk, and climb stairs as needed
  • Ability to work in kitchen environments with varying temperatures
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
