What You’ll Do

As a Cook, you will:

Help prepare large quantities of a variety of food including meats, fish, poultry, gravies, cereals, soups, vegetables and other foods. You will use various methods of cooking and seasoning and adheres to proper preparations methods.

  • Cook food as directed in the operational menu plan for the facility food service operation. Follow recipes and maintain accurate production records.
  • Prepare meals according to scheduling and sanitation standards. Ensure the quality assurance of all foods and supplies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food preparation and handling technique.
  • General knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and practices.
  • Ability to work well independently given proper direction.
  • Responsible for hot food preparation, including accompaniments and garnishes.
  • Prepares hot entrees, soups and vegetables following preparation sheets and provided recipes for dining room service, healthcare center, cafeteria and special functions.
  • Does advance preparation as indicated.
  • Completes food temperature checks each meal.
  • Completes production records and stores food items properly at close of meal service.

Qualifications

Required:

  • (1) year prior experience in food preparation obtained in commercial, military, or institutional setting strongly preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Food and Safety certification

Other Qualifications:

  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Physical exam that includes TB and drug testing.
  • Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
  • Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist individuals as needed
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
