Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Full-time Cook for the Food Service Department in Norfolk, VA. Shifts rotate 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offer a 40-hour work week with a potential sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.

Primary duties include preparing hot foods for patient trayline, cafe, and events. A Food Handlers Certification is required by local health authorities, with one year of elder care experience preferred.

Job Summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Full-time Cook for the Food Service Department. Location: Norfolk, VA. Shift: Rotating 8-hour shifts (4 a.m. to 8 p.m.). Full-time 40 hours a week.

Position Details

Full-time; 40-hour week; rotating 8-hour shifts 4 a.m. to 8 p.m.; ( Up to $2,000 Sign-on Bonus for qualified candidates)

Responsibilities

Prepares all hot foods for patient trayline, café, and functions including (but not limited to) entrees, vegetables, starches, and bakery items.

Eligibility & Requirements

• PACE specific incumbents for this position require a minimum of one year of experience working with the frail or elderly population.
• Licensure: Food Handlers (as required by local Health Department).
• Food Handlers required upon hire for all locations for SLC positions.
• Experience in Lieu of degree/diploma will be accepted.
• The Food Handler Certification is only required in the following facilities: SNGH, SLH, SOH, SCH and SWRMC
• High School Grad or Equivalent (Preferred)
• Food Handlers Card - Certification - Food Service Certification as required by local Health Department. (Required)
• Less than a Year Cook Experience (Required).
• Less than a Year Food Service Experience (Required).
• Restaurant or Hospital Cook Experience (Preferred).

Compensation

Base pay range: $20.32 - $29.73 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
