Job summary

Southcoast Health is seeking a qualified Cook at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA. This role supports the hospital's food service with short-order and made-to-order dishes, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency across meal periods.

The position offers 40 hours per week with flexible shifts, including potential nights, weekends, and holidays. Certification in Serv Safe is required within 60 days, and vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 is expected or exemption provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with food safety/sanitation and HACCP knowledge preferred.
• Two years culinary experience in an institutional setting preferred.
• Serv Safe Certification within 60 days of hire.
• Must be vaccinated for influenza and COVID-19 or have a valid exemption with a signed statement.
• Compensation determined based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare short-order and made-to-order foods for departmental feeding.
• Maintain quality, temperature and flavor; taste and adjust as needed.
• Follow sanitation guidelines and keep records up to date.
• Assist Chef/Manager with daily operations and coverage as needed.

We are searching for a talented Cook

Hours: 40hrs

Shift: Flexible shifts & hours with weekend and holiday rotation; 8:00am - 4:30pm are primary hours of position. 5:00am - 1:30pm, 7:00am - 3:30pm, and 10:30am - 7:00pm are secondary hours needed when covering other positions; Job requirements are Monday through Friday but flexibility to cover nights and weekends is preferred

Responsibilities

Position reports to the Manager Food Production or designee. Perform a variety of duties including but not limited to prepare short-order foods, made to order foods and Garde Manger needed for all departmental feeding responsibilities, scratch cooking (soups, stews, chowders, chili) monitor food produced for quality, temperature and flavor; identify any issues via tasting, portioning and visual appearance and make corrections; extend accurately recipes to ensure proper yields and maintain meal costs, etc. Keep production and temperature records up to date and report any problems to the Chef or Manager on duty. Responsible for maintaining all refrigerators and freezers clean and organized. Follow established sanitation guidelines. Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Equal to completion of four years of high school or the equivalent required.
• Experience with proper food safety/sanitation procedures and knowledge of HACCP principles preferred.
• Two years of culinary experience in an institutional setting preferred.
• Serv Safe Certification Required within 60 days of hire.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired.
• Compensation: Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience.

Pay Range

USD $16.99 - USD $28.92 /Hr.

Rotation Schedule Requirement

Job requirements are Monday through Friday but flexibility to cover nights and weekends is preferred
