Prepares food for patients, staff, and catered meals in a safe and sanitary manner. Uses standardized recipes, proper portioning, and conducts frequent checks for quality standards. Demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues, regardless of cultural background.
The right culinary career is right here at St. Elizabeth! We are hiring a Cook for our Ft. Thomas, KY hospital. Hours/Shift: 40 Hours/week, 2nd shift.
Preparation: Estimate the amount to be served, obtain food from storage, convert recipes to yield appropriate quantities, wash, peel, cut, and prepare raw ingredients. Use proper knife skills for meats and produce, set up stations to meet service times, and demonstrate organization and multi-tasking abilities.
Production: Utilize basic cooking skills such as sautéing, grilling, baking, steaming, poaching, microwaving, and other techniques to produce recipes. Season and cook food according to recipes or experience, determine doneness through tasting, timing, temperature checks, or internal temperature readings.
Service: Read and prepare food orders accurately and timely. Portion, arrange, and garnish food using proper utensils. Support team production to meet service needs while maintaining professionalism during busy periods and emergencies.
Kitchen Safety: Monitor equipment for defects or misuse, report maintenance needs, and maintain equipment for safe use to prevent injuries.
Food Safety: Monitor temperatures of hot and cold items, label, date, rotate, and store food per policy. Handle ready-to-eat items with knowledge of safe service practices, considering cross-contamination, food allergens, and time/temperature sensitivities, especially for high-risk populations.
Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment by monitoring and cleaning surfaces, equipment, storage areas, floors, walls, ceilings, and trash bins, using appropriate cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
Quality: Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and medical center regulations and standards. Participate in performance improvement studies, assist with data collection, and support action plans.
