Job summary

Newport Meadows & Rehabilitation Center of Christiana, PA is hiring an Assistant Cook to provide nutritious, quality meals to residents. This part-time/full-time role offers first and second shifts, with every other weekend required, and a chance to work in a caring, team-oriented environment.

The successful candidate will have prior line-cook experience; healthcare setting experience is preferred but training is available.

Qualifications

• Prior line-cook experience is required or preferred.
• Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, but training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Review menus prior to preparation of food.
• Prepare meals following planned menus and avoid unauthorized substitutes.
• Serve meals that are palatable and visually appealing.
• Assist in dietary needs and therapeutic diets as required.
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely service.

The most successful candidate for this position

• Has prior line-cook experience

• Previously worked in a healthcare setting (preferred, but we will train the right people!)

• Employs great customer service skills and is always willing to go the extra mile

• Possesses good time management and the ability to multi-task

The responsibilities & duties:

• Review menus prior to preparation of food

• Prepare meals following planned menus and make only authorized food substitutes

• Prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance

• Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menu

• Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures

• Inspect special diet trays to assure that correct diet is served to residents

• Assist in establishing service production lines to assure that meals are prepared on time

• Assumes responsibility for tray line and serves on tray line as necessary

• Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, family members, etc., as needed and appropriate

• Coordinate dietary service with other departments as necessary
