General Summary: To accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for various meal periods, including catered events.

These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, following the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are expected to provide high-quality care, service, and kindness to patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.

FTE: Full time

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure final products are fresh.
  2. Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients.
  3. Bake, grill, steam, and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods.
  4. Presents, garnish, and arrange final dishes.
  5. Occasionally serve food.
  6. Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment, and dishes.
  7. Handle and store ingredients and food.
  8. Maintain food safety and sanitation standards. Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils.
  9. Execute opening and closing procedures. Set up workstations with required ingredients and equipment.
  10. Check the quality and freshness of ingredients.
  11. Monitor station inventory levels.
  12. Accommodate special requests, including preparing meals within a special diet.
  13. Operate kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills, and fryers.
  14. Prepare and cook to order foods that may require short preparation time.
  15. Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service at all times.
  16. Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production and requisition supplies.
  17. Report accidents and injuries promptly.
  18. Attend allergy, foodborne illness, safety training, and hazard assessments.
  19. Comply with all safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  20. May receive inventory, move, and lift food and supplies.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating on complex dishes.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a variety of people.
  • Calm demeanor to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Accountability for dishes prepared, meeting management and customer expectations.
  • Understanding and organization to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling tools and techniques such as chopping, slicing, and dicing. Ability to stand for hours and use a computer.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes independently.
  • Physical ability to reach, bend, stoop, push/pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.
