Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital - St. Louis is seeking a Cook to support Nutritional Services and patient meals in an inpatient setting. You will coordinate with the Registered Dietitian on modified diets and prepare meals in line with dietary guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Prior food service or customer service experience preferred.
• Prior healthcare experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Ensure meals are ready at the specified times and test foods for proper seasoning.
• Consult with the Registered Dietitian on modified diets as necessary.
• Supervise Nutritional Services workers when washing, trimming or preparing food.
• Measure and mix ingredients according to approved recipes using kitchen equipment.
• Prepare sauces, soups, stews, casseroles and desserts per dietary guidelines.
• Cook meat, fish and poultry in various methods (baking, roasting, broiling, steaming).
• Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and follow infection control policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

How You'll Contribute

A Cook who excels in this role:

• Ensure meals are ready at the specified times and tests foods being cooked to ensure proper seasoning etc.
• Consult with the Registered Dietitian on modified diets, as necessary.
• Supervise Nutritional Services workers when washing, trimming or preparing food.
• Measure and mix ingredients according to approved recipes, using blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, etc.
• Make sauces, soups, stews, casseroles and desserts meeting established dietary guidelines.
• Cook meat, fish and poultry in a variety of ways such as baking, roasting, broiling and steaming.
• Maintain kitchen in a clean, neat and organized manner and adheres to all infection control policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned
