Part-time opportunity; Schedule: 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with rotating weekends
Position Summary
In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve, the Cook position is responsible for providing nourishing food to Residents and staff under sanitary conditions as directed and in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Cook will help to ensure that the dietary department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner by assisting in all dietary functions and providing supervision to all dietary aides.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide nutritional meals to Residents, staff, and visitors as directed.
- Plan meals sufficiently ahead to minimize the need for food substitutions.
- Work closely with the facility’s Registered Dietitian to ensure meals meet nutritional needs; make changes to meal plans when necessary with approval from the Food Services Director or Registered Dietitian.
- Ensure food supplies are appropriate and place orders when necessary.
- Oversee food tray line to ensure trays are prepared according to diet cards efficiently to meet scheduled meal and snack times.
- Provide supervision to dietary aides as directed.
- Ensure sanitation policies and procedures are followed at all times per regulations.
- Follow safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area.
- Properly store equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Report equipment malfunctions, breakdowns, hazardous conditions, and accidents/incidents to the supervisor.
- Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of Residents, interacting with warmth, respect, and professionalism.
- Communicate effectively with Residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
- Participate in meetings and in-services as scheduled, including ongoing education for professional certification or licensure if applicable.
- Follow Infection Control guidelines, including hand hygiene, isolation procedures, and OSHA standards.
- Support Resident Rights by promoting informed decision-making, dignity, and protection of personal belongings, and reporting abuse or neglect.
- Perform other tasks as required.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position oversees the kitchen production and Dietary Aides.
Requirements
Education, Training, and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Food Sanitation Certification preferred.
- One year of experience as a Cook preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Ability to prepare and serve nutritional meals at proper times and temperatures, maintaining flavor and appearance.
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions including calculations.
- Basic knowledge of food service, sanitation, and safety.
