Part-time opportunity; Schedule: 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with rotating weekends
Position Summary
In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve, the Cook position is responsible for providing nourishing food to Residents and staff under sanitary conditions as directed and in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Cook will help to ensure that the dietary department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner by assisting in all dietary functions and supervising all dietary aides.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities

- Provide nutritional meals to Residents, staff, and visitors as directed.
- Plan meals sufficiently in advance to minimize the need for food substitutions.
- Work closely with the facility’s Registered Dietitian to ensure meals meet Residents' nutritional needs. Make changes to meal plans when necessary with approval from the Food Services Director or Registered Dietitian.
- Ensure food supplies are adequate and place orders when necessary.
- Oversee the food tray line to ensure trays are prepared according to diet cards efficiently to meet scheduled meal and snack times.
- Provide supervision to dietary aides as directed.
- Ensure that sanitation policies and procedures are followed at all times in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
- Maintain a clean work area, free of hazards such as spills and excess carts.
- Properly store equipment, tools, and supplies at all times.
- Report equipment malfunctions and breakdowns to the supervisor and keep them informed of supply needs.
- Report hazardous conditions and accidents/incidents to the Food Services department.
- Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of Residents, interacting with warmth, respect, and a caring attitude.
- Communicate effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
- Attend and participate in meetings and in-services as directed or scheduled. Complete required continuing education for certification or licensure if applicable.
- Understand and follow Infection Control guidelines, including hand washing, isolation precautions, recognizing signs of infection, handling infectious waste, maintaining personal hygiene, and complying with OSHA standards.
- Promote and protect Resident Rights by assisting Residents in making informed decisions, respecting their dignity, protecting belongings, reporting abuse or neglect, avoiding restraints, and supporting independence and decision-making as per laws and regulations.
- Perform other tasks as required.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position oversees the kitchen production and Dietary Aides.
Requirements
Education, Training, and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Food Sanitation Certification preferred.
- One year of experience as a Cook preferred.
Specific Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
- Able to prepare and serve nutritional meals at proper times and temperatures, maintaining flavor and appearance.
- Able to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions, including calculations.
- Basic knowledge of attractive food service, sanitation, and safety.
