Job summary

Johnson Controls is hiring for an on-site commissioning technician to perform system commissioning using our configuration tools and to troubleshoot basic HVAC-related issues. You will also respond to warranty calls and ensure clear communication with customers and contractors on progress, safety, and site activities.

Applicants should have a 2-year degree or equivalent experience in electronics, mechanical systems, or related fields, plus PC proficiency and HVAC software knowledge.

Qualifications

  • 2-year degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning, or similar field OR 2+ years industry experience OR HVAC servicing experience.
  • Knowledge of HVAC controls systems, facilities management, and servicing techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional representation of Johnson Controls.
  • Ability to explain technical information to both technical and non-technical people and lead less experienced technicians.
  • PC experience required and ability to program HVAC-related software.

Responsibilities

  • Load system-level controller software.
  • Troubleshoot basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems.
  • Respond to basic warranty calls.
  • Keep management and JCI contractor or customer informed of progress and issues.
  • Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment.
  • Complete administrative tasks including timesheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation.
  • Document changes and provide information for as-built documentation.
  • Communicate with contractor or customer on arrival and before leaving site.
  • Follow safety standards and required safety training.

Responsibilities

Performs assigned system commissioning using Johnson Controls configuration and commissioning tools. Troubleshoots and resolves basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems. Responds to basic warranty calls.

How You Will Do It
  • Loads system‑level controller software
  • Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues
  • Calibrates systems requiring basic electronic test equipment
  • Completes administrative tasks including timesheets, expense reports, and on‑site documentation
  • Documents changes and provides information for as‑built documentation
  • Communicates with the JCI contractor or customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site
  • Follows all safety standards and attends required safety training; maintains a high degree of regard for employee and subcontractor safety
Requirements
  • 2‑year degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning, or a similar field; OR at least 2 years of industry experience; OR experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical HVAC systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques
  • Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls to customers and other contacts in an ethical and professional manner
  • Ability to explain technical information to both technical and non‑technical people and to provide leadership to mechanics performing non‑complex, non‑critical building automation equipment tasks
  • PC experience required and ability to program HVAC‑related software
Compensation and Benefits

Hiring hourly range: $20.76 – $28.46. Hourly rate will be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. This position includes a competitive benefits package — 401(k), medical, dental, vision, and employee discount programs.
