Job summary

Dematic seeks a Solution Design Controls Engineer to estimate controls solutions for conveyance and sortation projects. You will integrate electrical controls hardware, PLC, HMI, and drives to support customers and Sales teams in a dynamic Service Development group.

The role requires 5+ years in controls engineering and material handling, along with proficiency in Rockwell RSLogix and reading schematics. Occasional travel within the United States is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Engineering is required.
• 5+ years in controls engineering and material handling.
• Experience designing/commissioning automated material handling systems (electrical design, PLC, HMI, drives).
• Experience estimating projects is a plus.
• Proficient in Rockwell RSLogix PLC programming languages.
• Understanding of serial and Ethernet communications protocols.
• Experience with conveyance and sortation systems; PLC hardware upgrades, VFD upgrades, Dematic Flexsort, and industrial networking; ability to generate estimates for Sales.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to interpret complex controls work and define requirements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to stay current with material handling concepts.
• Ability to manage multiple opportunities and deadlines.
• Ability to forecast and report project status.

Responsibilities

• Understands the design of materials handling systems that integrate electrical controls hardware, programming and software to estimate controls solutions for customers.
• Reads schematics and PLC programs and follows up on technical details.
• Provides recommendations for productivity improvement, cost reduction and customer satisfaction.
• Performs technical interchange and knowledge transfer for processes and product application in system design.
• Performs full range of standard work for the professional field.
• Discusses complex problems with team members to provide proper controls solutions for customer requests.
• Identifies and resolves semi-complex problems and applies problem-solving skills.
• Provides guidance or training support for professional staff.
• Travels up to 20% to different Customer and Dematic locations across the United States.
