Job summary

Dematic is hiring a Solution Design Controls Engineer to estimate controls solutions for conveyance and sortation projects across our Customer Service Solution Development team. You will design electrical controls hardware, read schematics and PLC programs, and prepare recommendations that improve productivity, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Travel up to 20% to various Dematic locations in the United States is expected as part of this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
• 5+ years of controls engineering and material handling experience.
• Experience designing and commissioning automated material handling systems (electrical, PLC, HMI, drives).
• Experience with estimating projects (hours, resources).
• Proficient in Rockwell RSLogix PLC programming.
• Understanding of serial and Ethernet communications.
• Material Handling Equipment with conveyance and sortation focus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Dematic is hiring a Solution Design Controls Engineer that understands convey/sort applications among portfolio customers to join our Customer Service Solution Development team in estimating solutions for our customers.

What You Will do in This Role:

• Understands the design of materials handling systems that integrate electrical controls hardware, programming and software to estimate controls solutions for customers.
• Completes material specification, able to read and comprehend schematics and PLC programs and appropriate follow-up of technical details.
• Completes recommendations for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction.
• Performs technical interchange and knowledge transfer for both processes and application of products to system design.
• Performs full range of standard work for the professional field.
• Discusses complex, unusual problems with other team members to provide proper controls solutions for customer requests.
• Identifies and resolves semi-complex problems and applies problem-solving skills in order to deal with most situations.
• Provides general guidance or training support for professional staff.
• Travels 10% (max 20%) to different Customer and Dematic locations across the United States.

What We are Looking For:

• Bachelor's in Engineering
• 5 years or more of successful experience in related field (controls engineering and material handling)
• Experience in designing and commissioning automated material handling systems, including electrical design, PLC, HMI, and drives.
• Experience with estimating projects preferred (hours required, resources required, etc.)
• Proficient in Rockwell Automation PLC programming languages with the RSLogix software.
• Understanding of serial and ethernet based communications and protocols.
• Material Handling Equipment experience with a focus on conveyance and sortation systems, including PLC hardware upgrades, VFD upgrades, Dematic Flexsort, and industrial networking along with the ability to concept solutions and generate estimates to support Sales requests.
• Proficient in Microsoft products (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Able to interpret important areas of standard professional level controls work that typically requires processing and interpreting, more complex, less clearly defined issues.
• Demonstrated ability to determine requirements from customers while selling our ideas
• Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness and demonstrated ability to stay current with the latest material handling concepts
• Demonstrated ability to manage numerous opportunities and deadlines
• Ability to reliably forecast and report on the status of projects
