Job summary

Afinitas, part of Barry-Wehmiller, seeks a Controls Engineer to design and maintain control system programs for Equipment and Automation machinery, interacting with customers and service technicians.

You will troubleshoot, document developments, and support remote and on-site service across facilities, focusing on electrical/hydraulic schematics, ladder logic, and system improvements.

Qualifications

• 4-year engineering or 2-year technical degree in a related field.
• 2+ years PLC experience in manufacturing/plant environments.
• Proficient with electrical systems, motors, AC drives, and control circuits.
• Experience with ladder logic programming.
• Experience designing automation control systems and PLC coding.
• Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate effectively.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and make complex decisions.
• Familiarity with EPLAN/AutoCAD is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement control systems for new equipment and upgrades.
• Troubleshoot and debug software to improve efficiency and quality.
• Assist customers with control systems problems remotely and on-site.
• Build and maintain technical documents/procedures.
• Log development processes, code changes, and specs for future reference.
• Anticipate problems and provide solutions; report issues promptly.
• Collaborate with other departments to resolve issues.
• Gather information to ensure smooth transitions between departments.
• Analyze control system malfunctions and recommend improvements.
• Participate in setup and commissioning of facilities.
• Support production of system operation manuals and diagnostics.
• Communicate client feedback to engineering and product teams.
• Stay up to date on system architectures for machine controls.
