Job summary

Corning Incorporated is seeking a Controls Engineer to support Manufacturing Technology by designing, implementing, testing, and improving PLC-based automation and process machine systems. The role is based at Erwin Park Center with travel to project sites as needed.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or closely related technical field
• 0–2 years of electrical, controls, automation, manufacturing, or related engineering experience
• Solid understanding of fundamental electrical engineering principles
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Familiarity with PLCs, microcontrollers, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, or similar hardware and controls technologies
• Familiarity with C#, Java, Python, C, C++, or related programming environments
• Ability to travel extensively based on project needs
• Ability to work in the United States without current or future immigration sponsorship and meet export control eligibility requirements

Responsibilities

• Support automation and process machine systems for Corning manufacturing facilities and processes
• Develop control architectures, functional specifications, and system integration requirements
• Design, program, troubleshoot, and improve PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for industrial automation
• Use AI tools to support PLC code, logic sequences, alarms, and documentation; review output for safety and reliability
• Create and maintain electrical and controls documentation, including I/O lists and sequences
• Perform system integration with sensors, actuators, drives, robots, and third-party equipment
• Conduct simulation, commissioning, startup, onsite troubleshooting, and technology transfer activities
• Optimize PLC programs for safety, performance, and maintainability
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and project teams to deliver automation solutions
