Job summary

Joseph Michaels International seeks a Controls Engineer II to own the full lifecycle of custom automation systems from concept through commissioning. The role emphasizes electrical design, software architecture, and adherence to safety standards with cross-functional teamwork.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in electrical/automation or related field with 5+ years in industrial automation, Rockwell/AB experience, and AutoCAD Electrical proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Automation, Mechanical or related field or equivalent industry experience.
• 5+ years designing, building and programming custom industrial automation systems.
• Experience with NEC, NFPA 79, RIA TR 15.06.
• Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley platforms required; others preferred.
• AutoCAD Electrical competence.
• Strong root-cause analysis and troubleshooting ability.
• Willingness to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Design and program control architectures using PLCs and HMIs.
• Integrate robotics, vision systems, VFDs, and servo applications into control logic.
• Create electrical schematics, panels, and BOMs using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Lead robot programming and offline programming for seamless floor integration.
• Provide on-site commissioning, training, and handover documentation.
• Coordinate safety compliance and functional risk assessments.
• Mentor junior controls engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
