Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for supporting automated manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting complex electrical and control system issues, optimizing automation performance, and leading control-related project upgrades to minimize production downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, SLC 500) and HMI interfaces.
- Support, program, and optimize industrial robotic systems and automated work cells on the plant floor.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment failures during production shifts.
- Develop custom HMI/SCADA configurations, maintain data communications (OPC, IGS), and write system scripts to improve machine interface usability.
- Manage plant-wide equipment upgrades, electrical wiring installations, and software migration projects.
- Design custom mounting brackets, sensor fixtures, and hardware solutions using CAD and rapid prototyping tools.
- Perform regular backup maintenance of control logic, safety parameters, and HMI programs.
- Train and mentor maintenance technicians and plant personnel on proper equipment repair and troubleshooting procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, or an equivalent combination of technical education and hands-on experience.
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment working with automation systems.
- Strong proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley) and HMI development (FactoryTalk View, SCADA software).
- Hands-on experience with industrial robotics (e.g., ABB, Panasonic) including motion adjustments and sensor integration.
- Proficient in reading and modifying electrical, schematic, and CAD blueprints.
- Expertise in electrical diagnostics, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and industrial communications networks.
- Willingness to work 2nd shift and provide technical support during production escalations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, and fabrication techniques.
