Job summary

The Nycor Group is assisting a client in the Twin Cities area with a Controls Engineer opening. The role focuses on controls integration for automated systems, including motion control, sensors, drives, and PLC logic, with responsibilities across design, testing, and customer training.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least two years’ experience with automation components and industry-standard PLCs/robotics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in physics, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.
• At least two years of experience with automation and control system components (PLCs, servo/stepper motors, drives, robots, HMIs, sensors, vision).
• Experience with Rockwell, Siemens, B&R PLCs; Rockwell/Siemens/KUKA/Fanuc robot controls.

Responsibilities

• Support design and documentation of integrated motor products and motion systems.
• Develop controls software, motion libraries for CANopen and other protocols, and integrate sensors, servo drives, indicators, and PLC logic.
• Review system and controls architecture for component selection and interface compatibility.
• Execute technical work per SOWs and input to subcontractors.
• Develop test procedures and perform product qualification testing.
• Develop electrical schematics and support wiring, debugging of electrical systems.
• Design, build, and document control systems for automation test equipment and program controllers/drives.
• Provide technical support and training to customers, distributors, and manufacturing personnel.

Job description

Our client located in the West Metro Suburbs of Minneapolis (Nearby Plymouth) is looking to add to their team a Controls Engineer due to continued growth. For over 70 years this company has partnered with a variety of industries to solve automation application challenges.

Must be a US Citizen or Valid Green Card (ITAR). Visa sponsorship is not authorized for this position now or in the future.

The selected Controls Engineer must reside in the Twin Cities metro area or surrounding area as a Relocation Package is not offered for this position.

Highlights

• Support the design and documentation of integrated motor products and motion systems as it relates to controls integration, motor, feedback, cabling, and safety.
• Develop controls software, including motion libraries for CANopen and other communication protocols, and integrate components such as sensors, servo drives, indicators, and the PLC logic required to operate the system as intended.
• Review system and controls architecture during product and motion system development, providing input on component selection and interface compatibility to support reliable integration across subsystems.
• Execute assigned technical work defined in customer and project statements of work (SOW) and provide input to SOWs for subcontractors performing hardware design and build work.
• Provide input on the development of test procedures, and conduct and document testing, including product qualification testing, to verify system and product performance.
• Develop electrical schematics and support the wiring, debugging, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
• Design, build, and document mechanical and electrical control systems for automation and motion control test equipment and program the controllers and drives for that equipment.
• Provide technical support and training to customers, distributors, sales, and manufacturing personnel on control system setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in physics, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
• At least two years of experience with automation and control system components, including PLCs, servo and stepper motors and drives, robots, HMIs, industrial communication protocols, sensors, and vision systems.
• Experience with servo systems from manufacturers such as Rockwell Automation, Nidec Control Techniques, Elmo, Copley, Siemens, and Kollmorgen.
• Experience with PLCs from Rockwell Automation, Siemens, or B&R.
• Experience with robot controls from Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or similar manufacturers.
• Experience developing electrical schematics and wiring and debugging electrical systems.

Annual Salary Rate: $85K to $110K (Depending on Experience) and a complete benefits package and other great perks.
