We are looking for an experienced Controls Engineer to join a growing automation and engineering team. This position is responsible for the design, programming, implementation, commissioning, and support of automated control systems for manufacturing and industrial applications.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain control system designs, electrical schematics, flow diagrams, panel layouts, termination diagrams, and bills of materials.
- Program, test, debug, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and motion control systems.
- Provide technical support during FATs, on-site installation, commissioning, and after-sales support.
- Work with panel shop technicians to ensure control panels and electrical systems meet applicable codes, quality standards, and customer requirements.
- Handle component selection, specifications, and vendor quotations.
- Produce validation and design specification documentation when required.
- Travel up to 20% to customer sites.
- Participate in cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives relating to controls and automation.
- Perform hands-on hardware/software integration and troubleshooting of control systems.
Requirements
- BS in Engineering, preferably Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of Controls Engineering experience.
- Strong PLC programming experience across major industrial automation platforms.
- Proficiency with RSLogix/Studio 5000, AutoCAD, and FactoryTalk View.
- Experience programming in Ladder Logic and Structured Text.
- Experience with vision systems such as Cognex is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Experience designing and implementing controls for high-speed machinery.
- Experience with open-loop and closed-loop control systems.
- Experience with servo, stepper, and VFD motors and drives.
- Experience with rotary and linear indexing mechanisms, pneumatic systems, and electric actuators.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of NEC, UL, NEMA, CE, NFPA 79, 21 CFR Part 11, and relevant ISO/EN standards.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols including Modbus RTU, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, and Serial communications.
