Job summary

CyberCoders is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission PLC-based control systems for industrial equipment in Connecticut. You will develop PLC and HMI programs, integrate automation hardware, and troubleshoot to improve performance, reliability, and safety.

Qualifications

Position Overview: We are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission industrial control systems that improve machine performance, reliability, and safety. The Controls Engineer will develop PLC and HMI programs, integrate automation hardware and software, troubleshoot control systems, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget. This role focuses on applying control theory and practical automation experience to optimize processes in manufacturing or industrial settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, program, and commission PLC-based control systems (Siemens, Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley, or equivalent) for new and existing equipment.
• Develop and maintain HMI/SCADA interfaces that provide clear operator feedback, alarms, and diagnostics.
• Create and review electrical and control system schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Perform system integration, including sensor, actuator, VFD, motor, and network configuration.
• Debug and troubleshoot control system issues during integration and field commissioning to minimize downtime.
• Implement control strategies, PID tuning, and safety interlocks to meet performance and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, production, and vendors to define requirements and ensure successful project delivery.
• Prepare technical documentation, PLC/HMI code comments, and as-built drawings; provide training and support to operations staff.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and developing HMI/SCADA screens and operator interfaces.
• Strong understanding of control fundamentals, PID tuning, and motor/VFD control.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, ProfiNet, etc.).
• Experience with electrical schematics, panel wiring, and field commissioning.
• Problem‑solving mindset, strong debugging skills, and the ability to work independently and in teams.
• Excellent communication skills and experience preparing technical documentation and training operators.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Automation Professional, PLC programming certificates) or experience with safety standards (NFPA 79, IEC 61131) are a plus.
