Job summary

Harba in Indianapolis, IN seeks an experienced Controls Engineer to design, develop, and maintain PLC and HMI programs supporting process control and automation systems.

You will troubleshoot equipment, interpret electrical schematics, support installation and startup, and provide training to operators and maintenance staff to improve reliability and uptime.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
• 3-5+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering.
• Hands-on PLC programming and HMI development.
• Ability to read electrical drawings and control system documentation.
• Strong problem-solving and cross-functional communication.
• On-site work in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain PLC and HMI programs supporting process control and automation systems
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and controls-related equipment issues, including PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and sensors
• Support installation, commissioning, and startup of new equipment and automation systems
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, control system documentation, and equipment drawings
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and maintenance, to resolve issues and support continuous improvement projects
• Develop and maintain technical documentation for control systems and automation processes
• Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and uptime
• Provide technical guidance and training to operators and maintenance staff as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience
• 3-5+ years of experience in industrial automation, process control, or controls engineering
• Hands-on experience with PLC programming and HMI development
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and control system documentation
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems independently
• Good communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across engineering, operations, and maintenance teams
• Comfortable working on-site in a manufacturing environment
