Looking for: 10+ years from public accounting or public/private with insurance experience
We are seeking an experienced Investment Controller to lead accounting, reporting, and financial oversight across a large and complex insurance investment platform. This individual will oversee investment accounting across multiple bases of accounting while partnering closely with senior Finance, Investment, Actuarial, and Risk leadership on portfolio analytics, forecasting, capital planning, and new investment activity.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual investment accounting close processes across U.S. GAAP, Statutory (STAT), and Tax reporting bases
- Oversee investment accounting, controls, reconciliations, and reporting across a diversified portfolio spanning public and private credit, alternatives, structured products, and ABS
- Manage NAIC reporting, KPI/KRI reporting, and other internal and external investment reporting requirements
Credit, Valuation & Insurance Accounting
- Provide oversight of credit and valuation accounting, including FAS 91, CECL, AVR, IMR, watchlist, and impairment analysis
- Ensure accurate measurement, classification, valuation, and reporting of investment assets in accordance with applicable accounting and regulatory standards
- Partner with investment and risk teams to evaluate credit exposures, valuation considerations, and potential impairment events
- Partner with the CFO, CIO, Actuarial, and Risk teams to develop investment forecasts and scenario analyses supporting capital planning and broader strategic decisions
- Deliver portfolio analytics covering duration, spread exposure, liquidity, credit risk, and other key investment metrics to support ALM and liability-driven investment considerations
- Develop performance and risk analytics across public investments, private credit, alternatives, and structured products, including performance attribution and risk-adjusted return analysis
New Investments & Strategic Initiatives
- Serve as a senior Finance lead for the onboarding of new investments, strategies, and asset classes
- Participate in investment due diligence, evaluating accounting treatment, reporting requirements, operational considerations, and potential Risk-Based Capital (RBC) impact
- Partner with investment teams and senior leadership to ensure new transactions can be effectively integrated into the firm's accounting, reporting, and control environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred
- 10+ years of investment accounting, financial reporting, controllership, or related experience within the insurance or asset management industry
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, Statutory accounting, NAIC reporting, and insurance investment accounting
- Deep understanding of fixed income and credit investments, with exposure to private credit, structured products, alternatives, and other complex asset classes
- Experience with CECL, FAS 91, AVR, IMR, impairment analysis, and RBC considerations
- Strong analytical capabilities with experience translating portfolio and financial data into insights for senior management
- Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Finance, Investments, Actuarial, Risk, and other senior stakeholders
