Qualifications

Responsibilities

A bit about us

Our client is a growing real estate investment platform focused on acquiring, managing, and structuring investments across multiple real estate and private investment vehicles. The firm operates across several entities including investment funds, brokerage activity, and a family-office style platform supporting capital deployment and investor relationships.

Due to continued growth, the organization is seeking an in-house Controller (CPA preferred) to oversee accounting operations, cash management, and investor funding administration across the platform. This is a highly trusted role responsible for ensuring financial clarity and strong internal controls as capital flows through multiple entities and investment structures.

The Controller will work closely with leadership and the administrative team to maintain accurate reporting, manage cash activity, and support investor funding processes. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, comfortable managing complex multi-entity structures, and able to bring organization and structure to a growing platform.

Job Details

The Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations including banking activity, disbursements, reconciliations, and monthly reporting across multiple entities. This role will also support investor capital activity, ensuring that funds are properly received, documented, allocated, and tracked.

Maintaining a clear audit trail and consistent reporting structure will be critical to the success of this role.

Key Responsibilities

Cash Management and Banking

  • Maintain a consolidated cash dashboard across all entities and bank accounts
  • Produce monthly cash flow reports and rolling forecasts
  • Monitor liquidity needs and proactively identify potential funding gaps
  • Oversee account structure and ensure appropriate use of each account

Investor Funding and Capital Activity

  • Manage investment funding intake including verification of funds and allocation to appropriate entities or offerings
  • Track and document all investor capital activity including contributions, preferred equity, and member loans
  • Maintain complete documentation supporting investor transactions

Disbursements and Payables Controls

  • Oversee outgoing payments including wires, ACH transfers, checks, credit cards, and reimbursements
  • Confirm approvals, payee accuracy, entity allocation, GL coding, and documentation for all payments
  • Maintain vendor records, W-9 documentation, and payment logs while ensuring proper controls

Fee Agreements and Administration

  • Track and reconcile fee arrangements including investor relations structures, referral fees, management fees, acquisition and disposition fees, and consulting agreements
  • Maintain schedules outlining payment calculations, timing, and supporting documentation
  • Ensure fees are accrued and paid in accordance with governing agreements

Monthly Close and Financial Reporting

  • Lead the monthly close process including reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals
  • Prepare financial statements by entity including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
  • Maintain accounting policies, approval workflows, and internal control procedures
  • Coordinate with external CPAs, tax advisors, lenders, and investors as needed

Forecasting and Operational Spend

  • Map recurring and planned expenses across entities and budgets
  • Maintain consistent expense categorization across technology, software, and operational costs
  • Implement scalable accounting processes to support continued platform growth
