Walrath Recruiting, Inc. is assisting in finding a Controller for an important nonprofit client in the Albany area. This full-time, permanent role oversees all day-to-day accounting and financial operations, maintains the general ledger, and delivers timely financial statements and management reports.

Hybrid work arrangements support work-life balance in this nonprofit setting. The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, 10+ years of progressive accounting experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory roles.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, grant compliance, and IRS Form 990.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting.

Our client is currently seeking a Controller to join their team. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Responsibilities Include:

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the organization.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial records.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow, and bank reconciliations.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor organizational performance against the budget.
• Prepare financial forecasts and provide recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit accounting standards, and all federal, state, and local regulations.
• Coordinate and manage annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
• Present financial information and reports to executive leadership.
• Monitor organizational cash reserves and investment accounts.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and operational efficiencies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, grant compliance, and IRS Form 990.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
