Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, Providence-based nonprofit Controller role leads all accounting operations, including general ledger and month-end closes, guiding accurate reporting for leadership and funders. The position offers ownership of financial systems, governance, and internal controls in support of mission delivery.

The successful candidate will manage close processes, budgeting, and compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations, while mentoring a finance team and communicating clearly

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (MBA/CPA preferred).
• Strong nonprofit accounting and compliance experience.
• Ability to lead close processes and manage a finance team.
• Clear communicator with a hands-on leadership style.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting and financial operations, including the general ledger and monthly/year-end close.
• Prepare and present accurate financial reports for leadership, funders, and stakeholders.
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and program-level financial planning
• Oversee compliance with GAAP and federal/state regulations, including audits and Form 990
• Manage, mentor, and develop finance staff while improving processes and controls
