Job description

A growing, private equity-backed organization is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting and financial operations for a profitable portfolio company on track to surpass $40 million in annual revenue.

What You'll Do
  • Take ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, including the general ledger, AP, AR, payroll accounting, and cash-related activities.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring accurate financial statements and timely reporting under U.S. GAAP.
  • Oversee journal entries, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Establish consistent accounting policies, documented procedures, and review processes across the businesses.
  • Identify gaps in existing workflows and implement improvements that strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.
  • Remain hands-on with reconciliations, journal entries, and other accounting activities when needed.
Partner With Leadership on Business Performance
  • Collaborate with business leaders on budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial planning.
  • Analyze actual results against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop management reports and KPIs that provide greater visibility into profitability and operating performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve margins, working capital, cash management, and operating efficiency.
  • Translate financial results into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.
Support Multi-Company & Foreign Currency Accounting
  • Oversee accounting and reporting requirements across multiple portfolio businesses as the organization grows.
  • Address foreign currency transactions, account reconciliations, and foreign exchange gains and losses for a business with significant currency activity.
  • Strengthen controls around foreign currency balances, cash activity, and related reporting.
  • Coordinate with treasury, banking partners, external advisors, and the parent company's finance team on complex accounting matters.
  • Build processes that can accommodate additional entities, higher transaction volumes, and evolving reporting requirements.
Strengthen Controls & Financial Infrastructure
  • Maintain reliable financial records through effective reconciliations, documentation, and internal controls.
  • Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, auditors, and parent-company finance teams.
  • Support tax compliance, audit preparation, and other financial reporting requirements.
  • Partner with HR, legal, treasury, and risk management on accounting and financial matters.
  • Improve systems, automation, and reporting processes as responsibilities transition from the holding company to the operating businesses.
Build & Develop the Accounting Team
  • Lead and mentor accounting personnel, setting clear expectations and review standards.
  • Help establish the structure and capabilities of a dedicated finance team.
  • Improve segregation of duties and accountability while maintaining flexibility in a lean environment.
  • Support team members through close cycles, process changes, and periods of increased workload.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting, month-end close, and accounting operations
  • Prior experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller
  • Experience supporting multiple legal entities or operating companies preferred
  • Foreign currency accounting or multi-currency reporting experience strongly preferred
  • Experience managing, mentoring, or developing accounting staff
  • Proficiency with accounting systems such as QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or comparable platforms
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong financial analysis capabilities
