Warren Averett is working for an established manufacturer in Birmingham, AL, that is looking to hire a Controller with manufacturing expertise. This role will be hybrid and be available to have in person meetings as necessary. Details below!
The Controller acts as the lead financial partner for multiple production facilities. Will report directly to the Corporate VP of Finance. In this role, you standardize financial processes across locations and utilize our custom industry ERP to drive profitability, manage high-volume inventory, and optimize operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes for the plant.
- Prepare accurate plant-level financial statements, profit-and-loss (P&L) statements, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure strict compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and corporate financial policies.
Cost Accounting & Variance Analysis
- Maintain and improve the plant's cost accounting system, including standard costing, labor, and overhead rates.
- Analyze production variances (actual vs planned) and explain gaps to operations teams.
- Monitor inventory valuation, cycle counts, physical inventories, and provisions for obsolete or slow-moving stock.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual operating budget, periodic forecasts, and strategic financial planning for the facility.
- Partner with the Plant Manager to identify cost-reduction opportunities, productivity improvements, and profit optimization.
- Track and evaluate capital expenditure (CapEx) requests, project returns on investment (ROIs), and project spending.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Implement, monitor, and enforce robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
- Facilitate internal and external audits, including tax and regulatory compliance filings.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 5 - 8 years of progressive manufacturing accounting experience, including multi-plant oversight.
- CPA preferred.
- Technical Skills: Ability to adapt to new ERP. Candidate will be involved in transitioning to a specialized tube industry ERP, specifically Tube Mill Software (TMS).
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage decentralized accounting teams and partner with multiple plant managers.
