Job summary

Alliance Resource Group seeks a hands-on Controller to oversee its accounting and finance function within a manufacturing environment in Los Angeles. You will lead the month-end close, strengthen internal controls, and partner with operations to drive performance.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in cost accounting, inventory management, and operational finance, with a track record of building scalable processes and guiding cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership in manufacturing.
• Experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, and accounting operations.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting, standard costing, and inventory accounting.
• Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel for financial analysis.
• Proficiency with U.S. GAAP.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close per U.S. GAAP.
• Oversee GL, A/P, A/R, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
• Maintain internal controls, policies, and financial reporting processes.
• Coordinate annual audits with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance.
• Oversee cost accounting, standard costing, and inventory controls.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and development of financial models and dashboards.
• Lead and mentor accounting team and partner with operations for profitability.

We are partnering with a well-established, growth-oriented manufacturing organization seeking a hands‑on Controller to oversee its accounting and finance function. This individual will play a key role in leading financial operations, strengthening internal controls, supporting strategic initiatives, and partnering closely with operations to drive business performance.

This is an excellent opportunity for a leader who enjoys being involved in both the day‑to‑day accounting function and the broader financial strategy of a manufacturing business. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills along with deep experience in cost accounting, inventory management, and operational finance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
• Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management functions
• Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial reporting processes
• Coordinate annual audits and work closely with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance

• Oversee all aspects of cost accounting within a manufacturing environment
• Maintain and enhance standard costing methodologies and inventory controls
• Analyze manufacturing variances, production costs, labor efficiencies, material usage, and overhead allocation
• Partner with operations and plant leadership to improve profitability, operational efficiency, and margin performance
• Ensure accurate accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventor
• Review inventory valuation, cycle counts, and inventory reserves while providing financial insight into operational performance

Planning & Analysis

• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process
• Develop financial models, reporting tools, and operational dashboards to support executive decision-making
• Analyze financial and operational results, identify trends, and provide recommendations to improve business performance
• Track and report on key operational and financial metrics

Leadership

• Lead and mentor the accounting team while fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment
• Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and reporting efficiencies
• Serve as a trusted business partner to executive leadership and cross-functional teams

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA strongly preferred
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership within a manufacturing environment
• Prior experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, and accounting operations
• Strong knowledge of Cost accounting
• Standard costing
• Inventory accounting and controls
• Manufacturing variance analysis
• ERP Systems
• U.S. GAAP, Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting multiple manufacturing or operational locations
• Background improving or implementing ERP systems and financial processes
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to partner effectively across finance and operations
