Job summary

Highspring LLC (d/b/a Vaco by Highspring) seeks a hands-on Controller to lead all accounting and financial reporting for a fast-growing construction company with PE backing. You will oversee close cycles, internal controls, and project accounting across multiple sites, partnering with leadership to drive growth.

The role requires 7+ years of accounting leadership, CPA preferred, and strong ERP/Excel skills. This is a hybrid role based in Aledo, TX with 3 days in office and strong bonus potential.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role.
• Construction, engineering, specialty contracting, project-based, or job-cost accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, and project accounting principles.
• Experience working in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment is a plus.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
• Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements, cash flow analyses, and management reporting packages.
• Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Oversee revenue recognition and job cost accounting for construction projects.
• Review work‑in‑progress (WIP) schedules and support project profitability analysis.
• Partner with operations and project management teams to ensure accurate project forecasting and cost tracking.
• Manage banking relationships, debt compliance reporting, and cash flow forecasting.
• Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and relationships with external auditors and advisors.
• Support private equity ownership with financial reporting, board materials, lender reporting, and ad‑hoc analysis.
• Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and scalability of accounting operations.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning activities.
• Mentor and develop accounting staff as the finance team continues to grow.

Our client, a growing private equity-backed construction company with approximately $40 million in annual revenue, is seeking a hands‑on Controller to lead all accounting and financial reporting functions. This is a newly created position designed to strengthen the finance organization and support the company's continued growth. The Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, manage the monthly close process, improve internal controls, and provide financial insights to executive leadership and ownership.
