Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years progressive accounting experience; 3+ years in Controller or Assistant Controller role.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor accounting team across AP, AR, Tax, Treasury and Payroll.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual GAAP financial reporting with accuracy.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate annual audits with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, banking relationships and treasury ops.
  • Identify process improvements and automation to increase efficiency.
  • Partner with FP&A, Operations, HR and other departments on budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ensure integrity of financial systems and support ERP implementation.

Controller job at The HT Group. Los Angeles, CA. The HT Group is currently partnering with an LA-based E-Commerce/Consumer Products entity in the search for a qualified Controller for an immediate opportunity.


This individual will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls. This role will lead a high-performing finance team and collaborate closely with executive leadership, FP&A, and external auditors. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep technical accounting knowledge, strong team management skills, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.


Direct Hire – Hybrid – LA/South Bay Vicinity – Up to $175K base + bonus DOE

Position Scope


  • Team Leadership : Manage and mentor the accounting team, including AP, AR, Tax & Treasury, and Payroll, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

  • Financial Reporting : Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Internal Controls & Compliance : Maintain and enhance internal control systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

  • Audit & Tax Coordination : Lead annual audit processes and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure timely filings and compliance.

  • Cash & Treasury Management : Oversee cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and treasury operations to ensure liquidity and financial stability.

  • Process Optimization : Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce risk.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with FP&A, Operations, HR, and other departments to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives.

  • Systems & Tools : Ensure the integrity of financial systems and data and support the implementation and optimization of ERP and accounting software.


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) in Accounting, Finance or related field required; MBA is highly preferred.

  • CPA or CFA preferred



  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting standards.

  • Experience managing AP, AR, Tax, Treasury, and Payroll functions.

  • Proven leadership and team development skills in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

  • Experience with large-scale ERP systems and financial reporting tools.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence at all levels of the organization.

  • Experience in consumer products, retail, or e-commerce industries preferred.
