Location:Suburban – Montgomery County, PA

Size:Mid-size law firm

The Controller is a key member of the law firm’s leadership team, responsible for managing all financial operations with precision and integrity. This role requires hands-on expertise across all major accounting platforms and a deep understanding of law firm billing, accounts payable, and cash receipts. The Controller will also serve as a backup and support for the Accounts Payable function, ensuring continuity and accuracy in financial processes.

The Controller will need to have the ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment and bring hands-on expertise in law firm accounting. This is a high-impact role that works closely with our Chief Operating Officer and serves as a key liaison with our external accountant.

Responsibilities – This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

As Controller, you’ll lead the firm’s financial operations with precision and insight. Your responsibilities will include:

• Oversee all general ledger activity, billing, accounts payable, and cash receipts
• Ensure accurate coding and classification of financial transactions
• Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
• Preparation/oversight of monthly internal financial statements, monthly/quarterly and end of year closings.
• Partner with the COO on general accounts and financial strategy
• Provide backup and support for the Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable functions
• Serve as the point of contact for the firm’s external accountant
• Systems & Technology
• Manage and optimize accounting platforms – Center Base
• Lead system upgrades and staff training
• Strategic Financial Planning
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Present financial insights to firm leadership

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3-5 years of accounting experience, ideally in a law firm or professional services setting
• Mastery of legal billing systems and accounting platforms
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• A proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving and team support
