Job description

We are seeking a Controller for a newly acquired portfolio company that manufactures and distributes consumer and industrial products. The company is located in the Hialeah, FL area. This is a full-time, salaried position that requires five days per week on-site.

The Controller will bring the accounting function in-house, establish a disciplined monthly close, build management reporting where little exists today, and lead the finance workstream of an ERP implementation. Existing administrative staff handle day-to-day accounts receivable and accounts payable processing, and the Controller should expect to perform transactional work personally.

Fluency in both English and Spanish is a requirement of this role. The Controller reports directly to the CEO and works directly with the private equity ownership group.

Essential Functions
Accounting and Close
  • Transition the monthly close from the outside CPA firm to an in-house process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and a defined close calendar.
  • Own day-to-day transactional work, including bank and credit card reconciliations, payroll entry, vendor payments, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Produce consolidated and entity-level financial statements across related operating entities, including intercompany transactions and eliminations.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Provide oversight of administrative staff supporting the accounting function and of outside vendors supporting finance, tax, and audit.
Inventory, Costing, and Supply Chain
  • Own inventory accounting for manufactured and purchased finished goods, including standard costing, bills of material, production costing, variance analysis, physical inventories, and reserves for obsolete and slow-moving stock.
  • Establish landed cost methodology for imported raw materials, packaging, and finished goods, including freight, duties, and tariffs.
  • Develop product-level and customer-level margin reporting to support pricing decisions.
  • Partner with operations and purchasing on vendor pricing discipline and inventory planning.
Cash, Credit, and Lender Reporting
  • Manage working capital and cash flow planning, including a rolling cash forecast.
  • Manage credit and collections across a domestic and international customer base, including credit limits, terms, and aging discipline.
  • Support export and shipping documentation and international payment mechanics, including wire transfers and letters of credit.
  • Manage loan payments, monitor loan provisions, and ensure compliance with debt covenants and lender reporting requirements on a leveraged balance sheet.
Reporting, Planning, and Systems
  • Deliver timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statements.
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, and report significant issues to the CEO.
  • Build a KPI package and prepare materials for board reporting.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis supporting pricing, capital investment, and contract decisions.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement a modern ERP system to replace legacy accounting, inventory, and order management platforms, and improve integration between operating data and the general ledger.
Compliance and Tax
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local requirements for financial and tax reporting.
  • Ensure timely filing of income, sales and use, property, and payroll tax returns, and coordinate with outside tax preparers and auditors.
  • Support compliance with customs, import, and export requirements.
Qualifications
Required
  • Full professional fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience.
  • Manufacturing or distribution experience, including hands-on inventory and cost accounting.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a monthly close in a company without a large accounting department.
  • Ability to work on-site in the Miami area five days per week.
Preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed company with a leveraged balance sheet and bank covenant reporting.
  • Experience leading or participating in an ERP selection or implementation.
  • Experience with import and export operations, landed cost, duties, and tariffs.
  • Experience supporting international customers or distributors.
Skills and Attributes
  • Advanced Excel skills; working knowledge of QuickBooks is required.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Comfortable operating in a closely held business transitioning to institutional ownership, including building processes that do not exist today.
  • High integrity and sound judgment, with the ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
