Job summary

Vaco/Highspring is partnering with a growing company located north of Hartford to identify a hands-on Controller who will partner closely with executive leadership. This role oversees day-to-day accounting operations, ensures accurate financial reporting, strengthens internal controls, and provides financial analysis that supports strategic business decisions.

Ideal candidates will have strong experience in month-end close, cost accounting, and multi-state tax filings, with the ability to mentor

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Progressively responsible experience in accounting or controllership.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls and month-end close.
• Construction or project-based industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and daily accounting operations.
• Prepare financial statements, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Perform cost accounting, job costing, profitability analysis, and commissions.
• Manage multi-state sales and use tax filings and 1099 reporting.
• Partner with CFO on financial reporting, internal controls, and process improvements.
• Lead and mentor the accounting team with strong segregation of duties.

This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and providing financial analysis that supports strategic business decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
• Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and daily accounting operations
• Prepare financial statements, reconciliations, and journal entries
• Perform cost accounting, job costing, profitability analysis, and commission calculations
• Manage multi-state sales & use tax filings and 1099 reporting
• Partner with the CFO on financial reporting, internal controls, and process improvements
• Lead and mentor the accounting team while ensuring strong segregation of duties

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• Experience in accounting or controllership with progressively increasing responsibility
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end close
• Construction or project-based industry experience is a plus
