Job summary

Conexus, a leading venture capital firm in Santa Monica, seeks a Controller to own accounting and financial reporting for investment funds and related entities. Reporting to the CFO, you will operate in a lean, high-impact setting and collaborate with a third-party fund administrator.

The ideal candidate has CPA and 4–7 years in VC/PE fund accounting, strong US GAAP knowledge, and a track record in audits and investor reporting.

Qualifications

• CPA is required and strong fund accounting background.

Responsibilities

• Own accounting and financial reporting for investment funds and related entities.

• Support quarterly/annual reporting, audits, tax processes, and investor reporting.

The Opportunity

The Controller will report directly to the CFO and take ownership of accounting and financial reporting across the firm's investment funds and related entities. This is a lean, high-impact role with significant exposure to the CFO and opportunity to take on increasing responsibility. The role is initially an individual contributor and will work closely with a third-party fund administrator.

Key Responsibilities

• Own accounting and financial reporting for investment funds and related entities.
• Review work performed by the third-party fund administrator.
• Review fund financial statements, capital activity, investment transactions, and partner capital accounts.
• Support quarterly/annual reporting, audits, tax processes, and investor reporting.
• Coordinate with auditors, tax advisors, fund administrators, and other external providers.
• Review accounting for portfolio investments and expense allocations.
• Maintain accounting policies, processes, controls, and documentation.
• Investigate accounting issues and develop practical solutions.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, controls, and scalability.
• Partner with the CFO on special projects and broader finance initiatives.

Must Haves

• CPA required.
• Approximately 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Investment-fund experience required — VC, PE, real estate, or alternative asset management.
• Strong U.S. GAAP and technical accounting foundation.
• Experience with fund accounting, investment activity, financial statements, audits, and reporting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently investigate and resolve complex issues.
• High level of intellectual curiosity, initiative, and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ideal Background

• High-performing Big Four/public accounting Senior or Manager with significant PE/VC fund exposure.
• Public accounting + industry/fund accounting experience.
• Senior Fund Accountant, Fund Accounting Manager, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or similar background.
