Job summary

CFS in Portland, OR is seeking an experienced Controller for a nonprofit organization, offering a hybrid work arrangement. The role leads day-to-day accounting operations, closes month and year, and reports to senior leadership.

You will manage the general ledger, budgeting, audits, and ensure compliance with nonprofit standards while building strong internal controls and leading the accounting team.

Qualifications

• Nonprofit accounting experience is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Controller or senior-level accounting leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting and financial reporting.
• Experience with budgeting, audits, and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close.
• Oversee general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and cash management.
• Prepare and present financial statements and reports to senior leadership and the Board.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Support annual audits, tax filings, and other external reporting.
• Develop and improve accounting processes, controls, and procedures.
