Partnership Employment is partnering with an established nonprofit healthcare and human services organization to recruit an experienced Controller who will lead its day-to-day accounting and financial operations.

This hands-on leadership role manages government-funded, program-based activities, third-party billing, audits, and strong internal controls while mentoring accounting and billing staff to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting across multiple programs.

Qualifications

  • Strong full-cycle accounting background including close, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audits.
  • Experience with government contracts or grant-funded programs.
  • Experience supervising third-party billing or revenue cycle operations.
  • Expertise in nonprofit accounting and GAAP.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly and annual close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger activities.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial analysis across multiple programs.
  • Manage accounting and financial compliance for state, federal, and privately funded contracts and grants.
  • Oversee contract billing, reimbursement requests, cost allocations, and financial reporting to funders.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for third-party billing and revenue cycle operations.
  • Monitor AR, denials, collections, reimbursement trends, and revenue cycle metrics.
  • Partner with program leadership on budgets, financial performance, contract utilization, and variance analysis.
  • Lead annual audit preparation and coordinate nonprofit and government-funded reporting.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure GAAP compliance.
  • Review financial processes and systems and identify reporting improvements.
  • Develop and mentor accounting and billing staff.

Job description

We’re partnering with an established nonprofit healthcare and human services organization seeking an experienced Controller to lead its day-to-day accounting and financial operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands the financial complexity of a government-funded, program-based nonprofit, particularly an organization with a meaningful third-party billing component.

The Controller will report directly to senior finance leadership and oversee a small team responsible for accounting, billing, and contract-related finance activities.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the monthly and annual close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger activities
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial analysis across multiple programs
  • Manage accounting and financial compliance for state, federal, and privately funded contracts and grants
  • Oversee contract billing, reimbursement requests, cost allocations, and financial reporting to funders
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the organization's third-party billing and revenue cycle operations

What We’re Looking For
  • Strong full-cycle accounting background, including close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation
  • Hands-on experience with government contracts and/or grant-funded programs
  • Experience with contract billing, cost allocations, reimbursement-based funding, and compliance reporting
  • Experience overseeing third-party billing or revenue cycle operations
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting and GAAP
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with accounting/financial reporting systems
