CFS is partnering with a leading nonprofit organization in Providence, RI to hire a Controller who will lead the accounting and financial operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization.

This hands-on leadership role requires extensive nonprofit accounting experience, GAAP knowledge, and the ability to manage budgeting, audits, and regulatory reporting. The position offers a hybrid schedule and strong benefits within a collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Extensive nonprofit accounting experience required.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, grants management, and nonprofit financial reporting.
• Prior leadership and staff management experience.
• Experience with nonprofit ERP or accounting systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close.
• Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports.
• Lead the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and regulatory reporting.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
• Monitor internal controls and recommend process improvements.
• Support senior leadership with financial planning and strategic decision-making.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff.

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization.
