Job description

Our client is a fast-growing, multi-location automotive service company on a mission to make car care simpler, more transparent, and a whole lot better. As the organization continues to expand, they are seeking a Controller to serve as a key financial operating partner and help build the finance function for its next stage of growth.

The Controller will take ownership of the monthly close, reconciliations, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis while strengthening systems, controls, and processes to support a growing business. Reporting directly to the Owner/CEO, this individual will have a meaningful voice in business decisions and will be expected to turn financial data into clear insights, identify risks, and help guide the company toward smarter, sustainable growth.

Best-in-Class Benefits and Culture

Our client values their employees’ time and effort. Their competitive compensation of $110,000-$140,000 annually, depending on experience, and an extensive benefits package, enhances their commitment to your success. Our client’s benefits package includes:

  • Comprehensive health coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance provided
  • Robust retirement planning: 401(k) plan available with employer matching
  • Financial security: Life and disability insurance for added protection
  • Flexible financial options: Health savings and flexible spending accounts offered
  • Well-being and work-life balance: Paid time off

Plus, they work to maintain the best possible environment for their employees, where people can learn and grow with the company. They strive to provide a collaborative environment where everyone feels encouraged to contribute to their processes, decisions, planning, and culture.

To thrive/succeed as the Controller you should have
  • Have meaningful experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar finance leader
  • Have personally owned or significantly led month-end close and financial-statement preparation
  • Are strong across GL accounting, reconciliations, AP/AR, cash management, accruals, fixed assets, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Have experience with multiple entities and intercompany accounting
  • Can build processes and controls rather than simply follow existing ones
  • Are comfortable working directly in the details
  • Can explain financial information clearly to non-finance leaders
  • Have the judgment and confidence to respectfully challenge leadership, including the Owner
  • Are resourceful and comfortable working in a company where not everything has already been built
What You’ll Own
  • Month-end close and company, entity, and location-level financial reporting
  • Cash management and a rolling 13-week cash forecast
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and budget-to-actual analysis
  • Balance-sheet reconciliations and financial integrity
  • Membership and recurring-revenue accounting, including deferred revenue and payment recovery
  • AP, AR, collections, banking, and treasury
  • Spending policies, purchasing controls, payment controls, and fraud prevention
  • CapEx, project budgets, debt, and lender reporting
  • Financial setup for new locations and acquisitions
  • Financial integrity of payroll in partnership with our People team
  • Coordination with our outside CPA on tax and technical accounting
  • Leadership and development of our bookkeeper
  • The finance technology stack, including QuickBooks, Tekmetric, Stripe, and Emburse
