Job summary

KBW Financial Staffing & Recruiting has partnered with a client in Portland, ME to identify an experienced Controller to join their team. This is a fully onsite opportunity for an accounting professional who takes ownership of core accounting operations and strengthens financial processes.

Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, oversee GL and journal entries, and drive budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. Prepare statements and provide insights to guide management decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Controller-level role overseeing accounting operations.
• Excel proficiency for analysis and reporting.
• Strong communication and collaboration with leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Oversee general ledger accounting, including reconciliations and journal entries.
• Lead budgeting and forecasting in partnership with leadership.
• Evaluate and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures.
• Oversee inventory accounting, valuation, reporting, and reconciliation.
• Prepare and review financial statements per applicable standards.
• Analyze results, identify variances, and provide insights for decisions.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Oversee general ledger accounting, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and the integrity of financial records.
• Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, partnering with leadership to support financial planning and business decisions.
• Evaluate, maintain, and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Oversee inventory accounting, ensuring accurate valuation, reporting, and reconciliation of inventory balances.
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
• Analyze financial results, identify variances, and provide meaningful insights to support management decisions.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a Controller-level role with responsibility for accounting operations and financial reporting.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to analyze financial data and build reporting tools.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with leadership and cross-functional teams.

Compensation: $125-150k/year
