Job summary

Vaco by Highspring, a growing family-owned company, seeks a hands-on Controller to own the accounting function in Marlton, NJ. The role partners with ownership to drive growth, manage COINS ERP, and maintain strong internal controls.

Responsibilities include monthly closes, financial reporting, job costing, payroll, and tax compliance. Must have public accounting exposure and construction/job-cost experience. Onsite with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
• 5+ years progressive accounting, including Controller/Accounting Manager roles.
• Public accounting experience required.
• Construction or job-cost accounting experience required; HVAC/mechanical/service industry a plus.
• GAAP, WIP, payroll, and financial reporting expertise.

Responsibilities

• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare financial statements, budget-to-actual reporting, and operational KPIs for ownership and leadership.
• Manage construction job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Oversee weekly cash flow forecasting, AR collections, AP, and banking relationships.
• Manage weekly payroll, including union payroll and related compliance.
• Maintain the General Ledger, fixed assets, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Leverage COINS ERP to improve accounting processes, reporting, and integration.
• Oversee NJ sales tax filings, business licensing, insurance programs, and other corporate compliance matters.
• Coordinate with external CPA for year-end statements and tax matters.
• Partner with owners/operations to provide financial insight and support growth.

Controller - Growing Family-Owned Company

Location: Marlton, NJ area | 100% Onsite

A growing, family-owned company is seeking a hands-on Controller to join its team due to a planned retirement. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to take ownership of the accounting function, work closely with ownership, and play a key role in supporting continued business growth.

The company generates approximately $20M in annual revenue and has approximately 50 employees. The business is primarily service-based, with approximately 10% construction activity, and recently transitioned to COINS ERP.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller or Accounting Manager experience.
• Public accounting experience/exposure required.
• Construction or job-cost accounting experience required; HVAC, mechanical contracting, or service industry experience is a plus.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, WIP accounting, job costing, payroll, and financial reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills and strong Microsoft 365 proficiency.
• Experience with COINS Construction Software or a similar ERP is a plus.
