Job summary

Vaco Recruiter Services is seeking a Controller for the Scotch Plains, NJ area in the construction sector. Lead accounting operations, close processes, and financial reporting while partnering with operations to drive performance.

Requires Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance, CPA or CPA-eligible, 5+ years in construction accounting, strong job costing and WIP expertise, plus ERP experience (Vista Viewpoint preferred). Onsite role with opportunity to improve processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 5+ years of accounting experience within the construction industry preferred.
• Strong knowledge of job costing and WIP reporting required.
• Advanced Excel skills and ERP experience (Vista Viewpoint) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, GL, job costing, inventory, and fixed assets.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and management reporting.
• Ensure GAAP compliance, tax regulations, and internal controls.
• Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, inventory valuation, and margin analysis.
• Coordinate external audits and maintain CPA firm relationships.
• Lead and mentor the accounting team while improving processes and workflows.
• Partner with project management and executive leadership to provide financial insights.

Controller – Construction Industry

Location: Scotch Plains, NJ (Onsite)

A growing construction-related organization in the Scotch Plains, NJ area is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader with strong construction industry experience who enjoys partnering with operations while driving financial performance and process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, job costing, inventory, and fixed assets
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and management reporting
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal controls
• Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, inventory valuation, and margin analysis
• Coordinate external audits and maintain relationships with CPA firms
• Lead and mentor the accounting team while improving processes and workflows
• Partner with project management and executive leadership to provide financial insights and operational support

• Ability to collaborate across accounting and project operations in a fast-paced environment
