Job summary

CV Resources is partnering with an employee-owned construction client in Long Beach, CA, seeking a Controller to join their team. You will oversee the general ledger accounting team, review financial statements and key financial metrics.

You will mentor and supervise 2–3 staff across accounts receivable, accounts payable and contracts administration, coordinating with project management for job costing and WIP, while working with the President and fractional CFO on process improvements and

Qualifications

• Strong general ledger accounting experience and GAAP knowledge.
• Technical accountant with deep understanding of AP, AR and payroll.

• Strategic thinker who can roll up sleeves when needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee, manage, mentor and review the finance and accounting team (2–3 staff) including back-up coverage.
• Prepare and review monthly WIP, job costing and progress billings with project management input.
• Oversee cash flow and active cash management.
• Oversee receivables, billing and collections.
• Perform month-end close and account reconciliations; prepare adjusting entries.
• Prepare monthly financial statement package and financial analysis.
• Provide mentorship, performance reviews and career development for the team.
• Collaborate with the President to set goals and identify process improvements.
• Measure, evaluate and report on team success and financial KPIs; coordinate with CPA for tax filings.
• Serve as point of contact for 401k TPA and ESOP TPA; support ongoing administration.

CV Resources is partnering with an employee-owned construction client of ours in Long Beach in search for a Controller to join their team.

You will oversee the general ledger accounting team, review financial statements and financial accounting operations and key financial metrics.

• Oversee, manage, mentor and review the work of the finance and accounting team members (team of 2-3 in accounts receivable and billing, accounts payable and contracts administration) including serving as back up when needed
• Prepare and review the monthly WIP schedule, job costing and progress billings using information provided by the project management team
• Oversee cash flow and perform active cash management / monitoring
• Oversee receivables, billing and collections
• Performance of month end close and account reconciliations, adjusting journal entries
• Preparation of monthly financial statement package and financial analysis
• Provide ongoing mentorship and training to staff, perform performance reviews, provide consistent and continuous feedback and career development for the team
• Work with Company President to create team goals, department goals and identify potential process improvements and ongoing team and staffing needs
• Measure, evaluate and report on team success and company financial metrics through established KPIs
• Work directly with third party CPA firm to prepare reports needed for tax filings and financial reviews
• Serve as point of contact for 401k TPA and ESOP TPA for ongoing administration

You will report directly to the Company President, working in lockstep alongside him to provide value added financial information, accurate financial packages and mentorship to the accounting team. You will receive support of the Fractional CFO consultant.

Controller -Required Skills, Experience & Culture Fit

• You enjoy leading a team, supervising, mentoring, inspiring and ensuring accountability
• You have strong general ledger accounting experience and skills – GAAP accounting, financial statement preparation and review
• You are a technical accountant and have a deep understanding of the details of accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll accounting
• You are nimble and enjoy working both strategically and rolling up your sleeves
