Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience leading accounting operations, financial reporting, and month-end close.
• Payroll and payroll tax experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial statement prep.
• Prior experience supervising accounting staff.
• Advanced Excel skills and financial systems proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations including ledger, AP, AR, cash management and financial reporting.
• Oversee month-, quarter-, and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures.
• Partner with CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
• Oversee payroll administration and payroll tax compliance.
• Coordinate audits, tax filings, and relationships with auditors.
• Manage cash activity, banking relations, and treasury functions.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
• Support process improvements and special projects.

We're partnering with a well-established professional services organization seeking a Controller to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll, compliance, and internal controls.

Reporting directly to the CFO, this is a highly visible leadership role that combines hands-on accounting responsibility with team leadership and strategic business partnership. We're open to experienced Controllers as well as strong Assistant Controllers and Senior Accounting Managers ready to take the next step in their careers.

What You'll Do

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, cash management, fixed assets, and financial reporting
• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
• Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Oversee payroll administration, payroll tax compliance, and year-end reporting
• Coordinate audits, tax filings, and relationships with external auditors, banks, and advisors
• Manage cash activity, banking relationships, and treasury-related functions
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
• Support process improvements and special projects as needed

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience leading accounting operations, financial reporting, and month-end close
• Payroll and payroll tax experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial statement preparation
• Prior experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff
• Advanced Excel skills and strong financial systems proficiency

Highly Preferred

• CPA designation
• Public accounting experience, particularly audit and/or tax
• Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or Accounting Manager
• Experience managing audits, tax compliance, and payroll functions
• ADP and ERP system experience
