Our client, a growing financial services firm is at a pivotal inflection point. Having recently appointed a dynamic new CFO, they are seeking a Controller to serve as the "Number 2" in Finance. This is a high-impact role designed for a "builder" who wants to modernize a legacy accounting function, streamline workflows, and transition the department from manual, Excel-based processes to a sophisticated, tech-forward operation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Modernization & Scale: Lead the transition from manual accounting processes to modern, automated systems; partner with the CFO to spearhead departmental transformation.
- Financial Oversight: Direct oversight of all accounting functions, including the General Ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting, ensuring total accuracy and "clean" data.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of 2–3 (Senior/Staff Accountants and AP), fostering a culture of professional growth and high performance.
- Process Engineering: Formalize and streamline internal controls and procedures that have been built over time, ensuring they are scalable for future growth.
- Strategic Partnership: Serve as a key advisor to the CFO, providing the data integrity and leadership required to support executive decision‑making.
Candidate Requirements
- Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA highly preferred.
- Experience: Professional background in Big 4 public accounting is strongly desired.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience within Financial Services or Banking is a significant advantage.
- Tech-Fluency: Must be an advanced user of accounting technology; experience implementing new software or ERP systems is a plus.
- Leadership Style: A "go-getter" who thrives on direct feedback and has a proven track record of mentoring junior staff.
- Process Mindset: Ability to take "messy" manual processes and turn them into clean, documented, and automated workflows.
