Job summary

Morgan Hunter is seeking a driven Controller to join its leadership team in the Kansas City area. This on-site role focuses on strengthening financial reporting, improving processes, and building a scalable accounting function within an entrepreneurial, fast-growing company.

You will lead the general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting while partnering with executives to guide profitability and strategic planning. CPA preferred and strong GAAP knowledge are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Four or more years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Construction, project-based accounting, shared services, or similar fast-paced industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and the complete accounting cycle.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and operational analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a growing, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong desire to develop professionally and assume increasing levels of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting operations, including the general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow reporting, and financial planning.
  • Oversee project and service billing, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and treasury.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and operating procedures.
  • Partner with executive and operational leaders to evaluate profitability, performance, and business trends.
  • Deliver financial analysis that supports strategic planning and informed decision-making.
  • Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance reporting, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff while building a scalable, high-performing team.
