Job summary

The Purpose of this position is to oversee the accounting functions and staff, providing financial reporting to management and external concerns. The role requires directing daily accounting activities, leading the monthly and year-end close, and managing job costing and WIP with project managers and estimators.

Hershocks, Inc. is one of the largest specialty subcontractors in Central Pennsylvania, providing a comprehensive and technically expert range of services related to the design, installation, and service of windows, glass, architectural panels, and more. Purpose of Position: Oversee the accounting functions and accounting staff which provide financial reporting to the Hershocks Management Team and outside concerns.

  • Lead and supervise the accounting department, including assigning work, managing workload, providing training and development, and addressing performance issues as needed.
  • Oversee daily accounting and cash management activities, including review of cash receipts, disbursements, bank activity, account transfers, and cash position.
  • Manage monthly and year-end financial close and reporting, including general ledger activity, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, Work-In-Progress, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Oversee construction job costing and Work-In-Progress reporting, including monitoring job profitability, costs-to-complete, budgets, and over/under-billings; collaborate with Project Managers and Estimators to address variances and financial concerns.
  • Develop and maintain financial planning and analysis, including annual budgets, backlog analysis, financial forecasts, key performance indicators, and other financial reports for management and ownership.
  • Manage the company’s banking and financing relationships, including cash management, borrowing base reporting, financing arrangements, and other banking needs.
  • Oversee tax, regulatory, insurance, and other financial compliance, including sales and use tax, unclaimed property, required regulatory reporting, insurance accounting, and annual inventory processes.
  • Coordinate annual financial activities, including the company-wide budgeting process, CPA review, year-end reconciliations, financial documentation, and preparation for external accounting needs.
  • Maintain key external relationships, including the company’s CPA firm, banks and financial institutions, insurance providers, pension plan providers, and other financial partners.
  • Participate as a member of the management team, providing financial guidance and support to company leadership and operational divisions and contributing to company-wide policies, planning, and strategic decisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting (or equivalent in related field).
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in public and/or corporate accounting as a senior-level accounting or finance manager.
  • Complete support of and willing adherence to Hershocks' mission, vision, and core values (Safety, Quality, Integrity, Family & Community). Applicants must hold these standards as his/her own.
  • Exemplary history of financial project management.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Accounting experience as a construction company or experience serving construction clients is highly preferred.
  • Professional certification such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant) is nice to have.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, financial reports, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
