Job summary

Institute of Management Accountants, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Controller in White Plains, NY to own all accounting operations in a fast-growing startup. You will drive scalable financial processes, ensure GAAP compliance, and support rapid expansion through cross-functional collaboration.

You will build robust systems for revenue recognition and cash management, partnering with Sales, Legal, and Operations. Lead month-end close, prepare GAAP financial statements, and coordinate audits.

Qualifications

• Strong GAAP knowledge and revenue recognition experience.
• Ability to prepare accurate financial statements and reports.
• Experience leading month-end close and ERP/billing platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end accounting across AP, AR, billing, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and cash management.
• Manage monthly close, GL reconciliations, journal entries, and GAAP financial statements.
• Coordinate with external firms for audits, tax filings, and internal controls.
• Optimize accounting software and ERP systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks) and billing platforms (Stripe, Aleph).
• Partner with Sales, Legal, and Operations on contracts and revenue recognition workflows.
• Oversee bespoke client invoicing, multi-tiered billing, and collections for Fortune 500 clients.
• Support strategic FP&A, process improvement, and automation initiatives to scale growth.

Overview

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end accounting across AP, AR, billing, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and cash management
• Manage monthly close, GL reconciliations, journal entries, and GAAP financial statements
• Coordinate with external firms for audits, tax filings, and internal controls
• Optimize accounting software and ERP systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks) and billing platforms (Stripe, Aleph)
• Partner with Sales, Legal, and Operations on contracts and revenue recognition workflows
• Oversee bespoke client invoicing, multi-tiered billing, and collections for Fortune 500 clients
• Support strategic FP&A, process improvement, and automation initiatives to scale growth

Key requirements

• 7+ years progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years leading accounting processes and month-end close
• Deep expertise in GAAP, ASC 606, and financial reporting standards
• Experience managing ERP and billing platforms (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Ramp, Stripe, Aleph)
• Hands-on approach to implementing scalable workflows in a startup
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• CPA certification strongly preferred
